Georgiana woman dies in I-65 crash
Officials have reported that a single vehicle crash that took place at approximately 7:49 a.m. on Tuesday has claimed the life of Lora Payne Powell, 51, of Georgiana.
The 2008 Chevrolet Avalanche Powell was a passenger in left the road and struck a tree. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver, 48-year-old Ira Bradley Dean of Georgiana was taken to Baptist Medical Center South for treatment.
The accident took place on I-65 approximately four miles north of Georgiana near the 118 mile marker.
No further information is available at this time, as Alabama State Troopers are continuing investigation.
Bypass wreck kills one
Artie Scarver, 63, of Greenville was fatally injured in a two vehicle wreck on the Greenville Bypass Friday at approximately 4 p.m. According to police, Scarver was transported to L.V. Stabler after the accident, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Police said that Scarver was attempting to pull onto the Bypass from North Conecuh St., when his vehicle was struck on the driver’s side by a van.
The van was traveling down the Bypass towards Highway. The driver of the van and her passenger were also transported to Stabler’s for injuries sustained during the accident, but were later released.
