Georgiana working hard for the fall

The Georgiana Panthers are not taking the summer to enjoy the beach, but they are preparing for the upcoming football season.
Coach Ezell Powell, who will be in his fourth year as head coach at Georgiana, said the Panthers are in their fourth week of workouts.
The Panthers are working to improve all areas of the game.
“Our goals are to get better at the details of our positions,” said Coach Powell. “Players that play both sides of the ball have a tendency to know the big picture, but not understand the little things that will help in executing easier.”
Although workouts have only been going on a short time, Coach Powell is seeing some positive things.
“We are getting a great effort from the players daily,” said Coach Powell. “We are seeing older players lead in ways that we have not seen before. Our young guys are beginning to understand how important the little things are.”
The Panthers lost six seniors last year. Those seniors all started on both sides of the ball.
These six seniors included two players who signed to play college football; Jacquez Payton, who will be playing for Jacksonville State University, and Willie Mobley, who signed with McMurray College. “We will have a few different players that we will count on heavily this season,” said Powell.
The Panthers will continue to work out and improve as the summer progresses.
They are scheduled to participate in two 7-on-7 competitions in Luverne and Flomaton in July.
