The Butler County Association of Volunteer Fire Departments held its monthly meeting at the Butler County Emergency Management Agency building with a great group of firemen and several guest speakers.

After the meeting was called to order by President Keith Foster, Daniel Day with Alabama Association of Volunteer Fire Departments District 7 Director, told the association that the state fire conference in Monroeville is slated for July 27-28. On Friday and Saturday afternoons there will be competitions for fire departments that would like to compete in extrication and general firefighting.

Day introduced Joey Moffett from Escambia County, who is running for Vice President for the Southern Region District 7.

Jeff Owens of Forestry introduced his guest, Dan Jackson who is Assistant State Forester from Montgomery. Jackson spoke to the association thanking them for their dedication to keeping the state safe from forest fires and protecting their communities day and night.

Jackson, along with Senator Hank Sanders, presented each fire department a check of support from the state. Senator Sanders also thanked each fire department for their service and wished the State of Alabama could do more in way of monetary support.

Bob Sanders gave a report on E911 and addressed the issue of fire department problems getting paged out during the bad weather storm on June 17. Discussion was presented to solve this problem.

Before the meeting adjourned it was brought to the attention of those in attendance that the Workman Compensation payments will be due at the July meeting.

There were 14 fire departments out of 16 present at this month’s meeting. The next meeting will be on July 26 at the EMA building.
