This past weekend the Greenville Parks and Recreation Department hosted the Dixie Belles and Dixie Debs state softball tournament at the softball complex.

Friday night, all teams were recognized at the opening ceremonies. Games began Saturday morning. The Dixie Belles had seven teams in the state tournament, while the Dixie Debs only had two teams.

With Greenville being the host of the state tournament, both the Greenville Dixie Belles and Dixie Debs are given the opportunity to play in the state tournament.

The Greenville Dixie Belles faced Troy in the first round of the tournament Saturday morning and won 4-1. They then played Saturday night and lost to the Underwood Dixie Belles 13-3. Being a double elimination tournament, the Greenville Dixie Belles were able to continue play Sunday morning and beat the Eufaula Dixie Belles 7-3. They played their fourth game, against Dothan, Sunday night.

After games were cancelled Sunday night due to rain, the Greenville Dixie Belles were scheduled to play Dothan Monday at 7 p.m. Greenville fought hard and pulled out the 8-6 win over Dothan and eliminated Dothan from the tournament.

The Greenville Dixie Belles are set to play Troy this morning at 9 a.m. The winner of that game will face Underwood at 11 a.m. for the state championship and the opportunity to represent the state of Alabama at the World Series in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
