The Greenville High School Tigers took the field Thursday night against Stanhope Elmore of Millbrook in an exhibition game to kick off the 2016 football season.
The Tigers scored two touchdowns in the first half and led the Stanhope Elmore Mustangs 13-0 at halftime.
The Tigers won the game 13-7, even though their offense could not score against the Mustangs through the third and fourth quarters.
Stanhope was having trouble moving the ball on Greenville’s defense until the fourth quarter, when coach McLendon put his younger players in to give them some experience. The Mustangs finally drove the ball in for a touchdown in the latter part of the fourth quarter.
The Tigers have a lot of work to do on their passing game before Friday’s home game against
Beauregard High School of Opelika. Kickoff will take place at 7 p.m. This will officially start the 2016 season.
