McKenzie gets region win

The McKenzie Tigers increased their record to 2-1(1-0) with a win in their first region match-up of the year against the Pleasant Home Eagles, 53-33.
The Tigers played aggressively on both sides of the ball during the first half securing a 36-0 lead at the half.
Senior Chris Shufford, who was a nominee for WSFA’s Fever Athlete of the Week last week, entered the game averaging 160-yards per game. He scored four touchdowns, one of which was an 80-yard punt return.
Other Tigers who scored touchdowns include a defensive touchdown by senior William Brown, junior quarterback Daniel Gaston, and juniors Quindario Lee and Elijah Presley. Freshman Sebastian Vazquez made his debut as kicker in the second half with two of three successful points after attempt.
“We went in and played hard,” said Coach Tony Norris. “We had an opportunity to give every player a chance to play.”
“We have to have a good week of practice this week,” said Coach Norris. “We are playing a good team on Friday against Houston County, who is new to our area this year.”
McKenzie will host Houston County, 1-0 in region, Friday night. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
