Pine Flat Methodist homecoming slated

SPECIAL TO THE STANDARD

Pine Flat Methodist Church will hold their annual Homecoming and Memorial Day celebration at the small white frame church on Highway 10 West.

Descendants of the original founders and their friends will come together to celebrate the long history of the Pine Flat Methodist Church and its cemetery as they worship and fellowship together. The worship service will begin at 11 a.m. on Sunday, October 2nd.

The guest speaker will be Rev. Allen W. Stephenson. He is a native of Butler County and was educated in the Butler County public schools. He also attended LBW Community College and Auburn University.

Stephenson is married to Gina Bearden and they have three children and three grandchildren. His work history includes WGYN Radio sales manager and on air personality, Parisian department manager, station manager for WQZX Radio, and sales manager for Liberty National Insurance.

In 1994, he was elected as Clerk of the Circuit Court for Butler County and served three terms. Rev. Stephenson spent 15 years as interim pastor in 12 churches. In 2002 he was called as pastor of the First Baptist Church in Georgiana and is currently serving there. In service to Butler County he has been President of the Greenville Jaycees, Greenville Athletic Club, Greenville YMCA, Greenville Kiwanis Club, and Greenville Life Underwriters Association. He has served twice as chairman of the Board of Directors of L.V. Stabler Memorial Hospital. Rev. Stephenson is the past president of the Butler County Ministerial Association. He served five terms on the Executive Board of the Alabama Clerks Association. Rev. Stephenson served twenty five years as the voice of the Greenville Tigers play by play announcer for WKXN Radio. In 2003 he founded the Back to School Bash where more than fifteen hundred youth have come to Christ. Twice, Rev. Stephenson has been named Citizen of The Year in Butler County. He most recently was honored by being named the Spirit of Greenville winner by the Rotary Club.

Following the service guest will enjoy “dinner on the ground” outside the church.

Mrs. Myralyn Trawick Waston will lead the memorial service.

Mrs. McDuffie Stallworth, Mrs. Larry Smith, Mrs. Wayne Wall, and Mrs. Billy Dees will serve as registrars.

Mary Helen Terry will serve as the acolyte. Special music will be provided.

The Trustees cordially welcome all members, friends and descendants to the service. Attendees are asked to please bring a basket lunch, folding chairs, and folding tables.
