Stout defense gives Fort Dale the win

BRUCE BRANUM/THE GREENVILLE STANDARD

The Fort Dale Academy Eagles traveled to Auburn this past Friday night and beat the Lee-Scott Warriors, 12-7. Initially both offenses were able to move the ball in the first half and score but sound play by the defenses resulted in no scoring in the second half. The Warriors offense scored on their first drive and converted the PAT but that would be all as the Eagle defense tightened and kept Lee-Scott from making any more points. From there, the Eagles offense, behind their ground and passing game, would chip away at the Warriors defense and manage to score 2 TD’s with time eating drives. Both PAT attempts failed however and the final score was set at 12-7 at the end of the first half. Leading rusher for the Eagles was QB Luke Taylor, who gained 88-yards on 19 attempts. Taylor also scored the Eagles first touchdown on a 1-yard run and threw for 61-yards, completing 8 of 12. Andrew Salter scored FDA’s second touchdown on a 5-yard run and carried the ball a total of 13 times for 52-yards. Clay Mansman also ran for 64-yards on six attempts.  Six receivers caught a pass from Taylor. Defensively, the standouts for the Eagle’s were Salter and Mansmann who both had 9 solo tackles. Taylor and Lance Powell both had 6 solos. The Eagles travel to Selma this Friday to face off against the Morgan Academy Senators in region play. Game time is set to begin at 7 p.m.
