JAMES DAVIS, JR.
“Today, We lost a good man” Graveside services for Mr. James (Jimmy) Davis, Jr., 82, of Dutch Bend, were held Nov. 5 at 11 a.m. at New Bethel Braggs Cemetery with Reverend Elwood Sims, Steve Stevens and Reverend Jim Free officiating and Dunklin & Daniels Funeral Home directing. Visitation was held Nov. 4 from 6-8 p.m. at Dunklin & Daniels Funeral Home. Mr. Davis passed away on Nov. 2 at his home.
After high school, Mr. Davis played baseball for the St. Louis Cardinals. He was also a veteran of the United States Army. He retired from the State of Alabama after 36 years of service as a Traffic Engineer. He loved and trained walking horses and bird dogs. He loved to hunt and could call a turkey from five miles away. He loved his church, New Bethel Baptist Church, and his church family. He served as Sunday School Director, the Men’s Sunday school teacher and Deacon. He loved to hear his daughters play “Dwelling in Beulah Land” on the piano. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Ft. Deposit #291. His life was filled with joy and purpose. He will truly be missed and live in our hearts forever until we all meet again!
He leaves behind his wife of 56 years, Lois; son, Ronnie Short (Helen); daughters, Jamie Harris (Ron) and Lee Ann Phelps (Johnny); six grandchildren, Ronnie (Emily), Melissa (Jon), Carrie, Spencer, Jordan, Megan; sister, Peggy Campbell. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Thelma Davis. Pallbearers will be: Jordan Phelps, Spencer Harris, Clay Campbell, Horace Ward, Ronnie Short, Dale Gates, Elvin Gates, and Robert Gates.
