On Nov. 16, the newly sworn-in commissioners for the 2016-2020 term held their first business meeting. Among items approved was the election of officers. Frank Hickman will serve as Chairman and Allin Whittle will serve and Vice-Chair.

They then approved a new meeting time for the workshop and regular business meeting. Instead of split days, the commissioners will combine both meetings and have them on the second Tuesday of the month beginning at 5:15 p.m. They will hold the workshop first and then recess for 15 minutes and then proceed into the business meeting.

The commissioners also approved a Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery expansion request, pending a sanitary review by the County Health Department. Along with that, they approved a Drug Task Force Grant in the amount of $50,000 for vehicles. In addition, they amended the FY 16-17 budget to reflect the increased expenditure.

Dennis McCall gave the Engineer’s Report next and stated, “This has been one of the most professional commissions I have worked for and all of you have my respect.” McCall went on to discuss the various ATRIP projects that have extended the life of major collector roads in Butler County by 15 years. They had four projects this year which was a daunting task, but the county inspectors did a great job in making sure the projects were completed explained McCall.

The commissioners then approved to pay the bills and motioned to adjourn.
