City Council meets to discuss airport

The Greenville City Council met last Monday night to discuss the Mack Crenshaw Memorial Airport. A resolution was approved for the mayor to enter into a contract with a professional consulting firm to provide engineering and planning services for advancement purposes of the airport.

The city accepted the proposal from Goodwyn, Mills and Cawood, Inc. GMC will help with design and consulting to support the airport improvement program, airport layout and terminal area plan development and compatible land-use planning just to name a few.

The council also approved a resolution to apply for federal funding in the amount of $1,350,000 and for state funding in the amount of $75,000 for airport improvement funding assistance from the State of Alabama Department of Transportation for the purpose of undertaking a project in fiscal year 2017 to make improvements to the airport.

The council also authorized the city to participate in the State of Alabama’s 2017 severe weather preparedness tax holiday. The holiday will begin at midnight on Feb. 24 and end at midnight on Feb.26.

Glendale Ave. will be getting a new street light at 110 Glendale Ave. The next city council meeting will be held on Dec. 12 at 5:30 p.m.
