JEROME W. HARRIS, JR.
The eternal parts of Jerome W. Harris, Jr. at the age of 61, his soul and spirit left his body to be with the Lord on Nov. 26.
He was born to Alice Crenshaw and Jerome Harris, Sr. on June 9, 1955 in Greenville. He was the life of his grandparents Will and Mary Green Harris, and his Aunt Willie Mary Harris Crenshaw and Uncle Clate Crenshaw all who preceded him into Heaven, along with other family members.
He became a member of Butler Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church at an early age and remained a member until he answered the call to enter Heaven to be with God and his loved ones. He attended elementary school at Pine Flat (Church) School in Forest Home. He continued his education at Lomax- Hannon High School, graduating in 1973. He finished his education at Alabama State University in 1977.
He was employed by Lomax-Hannon Junior College before moving on to work with the Greenville Parks and Recreation Department for over 40 years. “He had an outstanding love for children and coaching.” He married the love of his life Leila Davidson on Dec. 11, 1980.
He leaves to cherish his memory a loving and devoted wife, a son Jerome III (Tarnisha) of Greenville; daughter, Mikki Harris of Birmingham; He was a proud grandfather of a granddaughter, Alexandria Albritton, Opelika; grandson, Omarion Young, Greenville; sister, Donette Crenshaw, Greenville; brothers, Michael (Nancy) Crenshaw, Cantonment, Fla; Kenneth Crenshaw and Donald Crenshaw of Atlanta, Ga; Uncle Ben Fountain, Georgiana; aunts, Mrs. Mildred Stallworth, Brooklyn, NY; Dr. Margaret Fountain, Boston, MA; Mrs. Lucy Lewis, Birmingham; A host of cousins, nieces, nephews, friends, former Greenville Parks and Recreation children, parents and co-workers. He has achieved success. He has lived well, laughed often, and loved much; He gained the respect of intelligent men and women; The love of children. He has accomplished his task. He has made the world better than he found it, whether by an improved poppy, a perfect poem or a rescued soul; He has not lacked appreciation of earth’s beauty or failed to express it; He has always looked for the best in others and given the best he had; His life has been an inspiration and his memory is a benediction. Amen.
