Tigers bring home 2 wins

After losing their first four games of the season, the McKenzie Tigers got it together and won two games late last week.
The Tigers traveled to Florala to take on the Wildcats last Thursday and brought home a 7-4 win. Chris Shufford started on the mound for the Tigers and had 12 strikeouts and only one walk. Jackson Vickery and William Brown also took the mound during the game and had a combined 2 strikeouts and 3 walks.
At the plate, Vickery and Brown led the team. Vickery was 4 for 4 with three singles and one double and 2 RBIs and Brown was 3 for 3 with a single, double, triple and 3 RBIs.
Friday the Tigers took on the Hillcrest Jaguars in Evergreen and came home with a 19-12 win. Freshman Kaegun Jones started on the mound and had seven strikeouts and two walks. Brown and Dyon McMillion relieved Jones. Brown had four strikeouts and allowed six hits. McMillion had one strikeout, no walks and only allowed one hit.
Vickery batted 3 for 4 with three singles. Brown was 4 for 6 with 4 singles and 5RBIs.
“I saw some improvement in areas,” said Coach Tony Norris. “We still have more to work on as we approach area play. The players are working hard and I am glad they were able to get some wins under their belt to give them the confidence to keep up the hard work.”
The Tigers will host Hillcrest in McKenzie on Friday. Junior varsity will play at 4 p.m. followed by the varsity.
