I, Mrs. Cora Lee McGhee (Sadie) was born on March 5, 1932 in Greenville to my parents, the late Rachel and John Johnson.
As a child I attended Pine Level Baptist Church and Pine Level School in Greenville. Shortly after, I graduated from ASU in Montgomery with a degree in Education. I then moved to Detroit where I taught children in the public-school system for eight years. After teaching years, I obtained a job with Bell South which is now known as AT&T. I retired from AT&T May 4, 1991.
While in Detroit, I married the Late Elijah McGhee. I attended Oakland Avenue Missionary Baptist Church of Detroit.
I returned to Montgomery in 2013 where I passed in my home on March 29. I lived there with my only surviving sister, Jessie, and brother, Leroy. I enjoyed spending time with my great great niece, Dariauna (Queenie), watching wrestling, baseball, and Family Feud. I’d sit in my favorite chair and eat BBQ chips, starburst, and drink Pepsi. I was 86 years old.
I am preceded in death by my late husband Elijah McGhee; parents, Rachel and John Johnson; two sisters, Clara Savage and Johnnie May Johnson and two brothers George Johnson and Fred Johnson.
I leave to cherish my memories: my sister Jessie Harris (Little) and brother Leroy Johnson both of Montgomery; aunt Sarah Steele of Greenville; the pride of my life, my baby my great great niece Dariauna Montrice Harris (Queenie) of Montgomery; sister-in-law, Sylvia Johnson, Detroit and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.
