WAYNE LOUIS WALTERS

November 15, 1953 – February 13, 2020

Mr. Wayne Louis Walters, of Greenville, passed away Thursday, Feb 13, 2020 at the age of 66.

Mr. Walters was born in 1953 to the late Gordon Walters and Arlene (Enger) Walters and was raised in Whitefish, Mont. He enlisted in the U.S. Army and served active duty as a helicopter crew chief in the Vietnam War.

Following his service, he studied business at the University of Alabama in Huntsville and earned an associate degree from Columbia Junior College of Business in Columbia, S.C., where he was also an active member of the volunteer fire department.

He worked as an independent contractor for many years and later used his experience to teach building sciences at Brewbaker Technology Magnet High School and Greenville High School.

He loved books, puzzles, ultimate frisbee and disc golf, and most of all baseball, which he coached through the Greenville Parks and Recreation Department and later Brewbaker Technology Magnet High School. He was also an active member of the Butler County Gideons for many years.

Mr. Walters was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Darleen (Walters) Hamilton and Carolyn (Walters) Huntzinger.

He is survived by his son Connally and daughter Emmaline (Bryan) Barnhill; his grandson, Henry Barnhill; mother of his children, Carol Connally; and two siblings, Beverly (Walters) Bonner and Mark Walters.

A memorial service was held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 19, at the First United Methodist Church of Greenville with the Reverends Angie Long and Matt Langford officiating. Dunklin and Daniels Funeral home announcing.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Butler County Gideons or the First United Methodist Church of Greenville, AL.
