JULIAN WAYNE ROPER

April 13, 1939 – April 20, 2021

Julian Wayne Roper, 82, a resident of Greenville, died on Tuesday evening, April 20. Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, April 25, in the chapel of Dunklin Funeral Home with Rev. Herbert Brown officiating and Dunklin Funeral Home directing. Burial followed in Central Baptist Church Cemetery. The family received friends one hour prior to services at the funeral home.

Mr. Roper was preceded in death by his loving wife of 50 years, Mary Scott “Scottie” Roper; parents, Julian Leo Roper and Mary Ruth Crawford, brother, Lewis Crawford; and brother-in-law, Tom Hudson.

He is survived by his sisters, Donna Hudson, Valerie (Wayne) Hayes, and Kerry (Owen) Morell; brother, Stephen Roper; sister-in-law, Sarah (Hollis) Lewis; brother-in-law, Bob (Janelle) Newton; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and loving friends.

Mr. Roper proudly served in United States Navy and was an active member of the American Legion. He was employed by the Alabama State Highway Department for 36 years. He was a longtime member of Southside Baptist Church and the Gideons International. An avid Alabama fan, he hardly ever missed a game and proudly wore his Crimson Tide apparel.
