ANNE ELIZABETH MCCRORY HOPKINS

Dec. 26, 1932 – Sept. 9 2021

Anne Elizabeth McCrory Hopkins, a devoted mother and life-long resident of Alabama (Greenville, Montgomery, and Millbrook) passed away peacefully in her sleep, Sept. 9, 2021, at the age of 88 years.

Anne is survived by her children, Beverly (Hopkins) Wheat and John Hopkins; granddaughter, Caroline Wheat; son-in-law, Stan Wheat; sister, Jane (McCrory) Phillips and a number of nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband, Calvin Hopkins; sister, Elvira McCrory; brothers, John McCrory and Vastine McCrory; and parents, John and Frances McCrory.

Anne was born in Greenville, Dec. 26, 1932, the daughter of John A. McCrory and Frances Adams. She graduated from Greenville High School in 1952 and then attended Judson College and Troy University. She worked off and on in insurance over the years. She married Calvin Hopkins, an accountant for the State of Alabama, March 20, 1960. She was a devoted member of Greenville First United Methodist Church, Montgomery First UMC and Millbrook UMC.

Anne had polio as a child. She overcame the obstacles and thrived, although she had post-polio effects later in life. She always told the story of her parents taking her to see the famous agricultural scientist, George Washington Carver, for treatment, who rubbed peanut oil on her polio-stricken leg.

Visitation was held at Brookside Funeral Home in Millbrook on Thursday, Sept. 16. A graveside service followed at Magnolia Cemetery in Greenville with The Reverend Sarah Ellen Hopkins (niece) officiating.
