WILLIAM CLINTON COWDEN

William “Bill” Clinton Cowden, age 75 of Greenville, died on Monday, Feb. 28, 2022 at his residence. A memorial service was held in his honor on Saturday, March 5, at 2 p.m. at Pleasant Home Baptist Church in Brantley.

Bill was born on June 29, 1946 in Norton, Va., to Jesse and Mary Norris Cowden. He attended John B. Burton High School then went on to join the Navy as an Ordinance Specialist. He also serviced as a Police Officer for the City of Greenville before retiring from the Mobile Home Industry as a self-employed contractor.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse R. Cowden and Mary Irene Norris Cowden and granddaughter, Brianna Layton.

He is survived by his life partner, Shirley Richardson of Greenville,; his children, Brittany Cowden of Tifton, Ga.,  and her mother Diane Cowden Young, Charles (Chuck) Cain II of Canton, Ga., Angie Jackson of Eufula, Ga., Jeff Cain of Kennesaw, Ga., Teresa Cain of Hawthorne, Fla., and their mother Sue Cowden – Hill, Kent Layton of Albany, Ga., Daphne King of Orange Beach, Ashley Conway of Gulf Shores; siblings, James Harold Cowden of Kingsport, Tenn., Loretta Jean Stidham of Norton, Va., Joyce Ann Watts of Kingsport, Tenn., Jackie Ray Cowden of Covington, Ga.; special grandchild, Charles (Chad) W. Cain III of Decatur; great granddaughter, Calla Burch Cain; along with numerous nieces, nephews other family and his hunting club friends.
