IVA JEWELL MCNAUGHTON
Nov. 8, 1923 – April 10, 2022
Iva Jewell McNaughton, 98 of Shackleville, passed away peacefully on April 10, 2022 at NHC in Anniston, surrounded by her loved ones.
Iva, affectionately known as “Jewell” or “Granny,” is survived by her son, Amos Duwayne McNaughton; her granddaughters, Leah Wade (Justin Wade), and Bethany Adams (Eric Adams); great grandchildren, Kinley and Kellen Wade, and Avery and Rylee Adams; and many other family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Amos Milton McNaughton; son, Donnie Nelson McNaughton; her mother and father, George Washington Herring and Rosa Bell Boutwell Herring; her siblings, LK, Eula Lee, Ruth, Mamie Lou, Nettie Mearl, Bettie Pearl, Lora, and Adelle; and many nieces and nephews.
Born in November, 1923, Jewell learned at a very young age how to be independent, courageous, and resourceful. With her sharp mind and quick wit, Jewell was a survivor who never shied away from a challenge or a hard day’s work. Jewell lived for her family, and always made sure they felt loved and cared for. Jewell was a devoted wife, mother, and Christian who attended Gateway Church of Christ and was an active member there for over 30 years.
Jewell loved to garden, sew, quilt, cook, and spend time with her sisters and family. In her later years, she moved from her home of 90 years to live close to her granddaughters and son. There she joined the senior center and Oxford Church of Christ, and was active in the community. Jewell will always be remembered for being a strong, self -sufficient, kind, and loving person who was always thankful for what she had. She will never be forgotten.
Services were held Tuesday, April 12, at Johnson Funeral Home in Georgiana. The family received visitors from 2 – 3 p.m. and service was held at 3 p.m. It was officiated by Tommy Gafford, followed by a graveside service at Sunrise Memorial Park in Greenville.
Paul bearers were, to include: Gary Hanks, Justin Wade, Kellen Wade, Scott Blake, and David Stringfellow.
