Ellis Wayne Butts Freeman, born on July 25, 1959, went to his heavenly home on Oct. 19, 2022.

Ellis was preceded in death by his mother, Willie E. Freeman Butts; his father, Ralph O. Butts; paternal grandfather, Gerald Orville Butts; paternal grandmother, Bessie Ward Butts; maternal grandfather, William E. Freeman and maternal grandmother, Delilah Wilson Freeman.

He is survived by his wife, Jan Philen Freeman; daughter, Sarah Freeman Faulkner (Brett); grandson, Seth Faulkner; granddaughter, Sage Faulkner of Birmingham; step-sons, Andrew Phelps (Summer) and Thomas Phelps; siblings, Edward O. Butts (Sonja), Faye Hood Stewart (John), Elton M. Butts (Teresa), Janice Taylor, Danice Bowen, Eric L. Butts (Mavis); brothers-in-law, Mike Philen (Jennifer) and Randal Philen; sister-in-law, Martha Philen Gafford; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A private service will be held a later date.
