HARRY WILLIAM DEARING, III

Aug. 10, 1938 – Feb. 27, 2023

Harry was born Aug. 10, 1938, to Harry William Dearing, Jr. and Thelma Lucille Laxon in Auburn. He is survived by wife, Mary Spivey Dearing; daughter, Whitman Stanford (Bruce); son, Sheppard Dearing (Vickie); brother, Melton Dearing (Nathalie); grandchildren, Emily Dearing Polson (Austin), Rosemary Kramer, Foster Dearing, Isabelle Kramer, Avery Dearing, and Ryan Dearing, and great grandson, Ford Sheppard Polson. He also leaves behind a multitude of loved family members and friends.

As a soldier in the US Army, he was stationed in Germany as a cryptographer. He met Mary in 1963 in Livingston and they were married in March of 1967. In 1971, they settled in Greenville, where they grew their family and made their forever church home at St. Thomas Episcopal Church.

Harry has been many things to many people; husband, father, grandfather, friend. Whether people knew him from his early years or from his later ones, he has been described by those who knew him as having many interests, a kind soul; being always curious and a lifelong learner. He genuinely loved getting to know people and was profoundly devoted to his loved ones. He was a gifted craftsman and shared his woodworking with many.

Planting a tree would be a most meaningful memorial for a man that loved them so much.

“See him in every board of lumber, remember his hearty laugh and bright blue eyes with every fish you catch, see him when you see someone sailing or tinkering in the woodshop.”

See him in all the things you love.

A visitation will be held at 1 p.m. with a memorial service to follow at 2 p.m. on Friday, March 10, at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, 210 Church St, Greenville, AL 36037.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the memorial fund of St. Thomas Episcopal Church may be made by contacting the church at 334-382-8914 or by mailing 210 Church St, Greenville, AL 36037.
