Fort Dale Academy senior Marli Campbell is the AISA 2024 Girls Golf State Champion. She won the title at the state tournament at Lagoon Park April 29-30.
“Golf is mainly a male-driven sport.” commented Campbell. “Being the only girl on my team when I started playing golf at Fort Dale last season meant a lot to me. Last year, I set a major goal for myself to win state my senior year, and I worked diligently to get here. I attended camps such as Auburn University’s golf camp, took professional lessons, and spent countless hours on the course trying to critique my swing. When I mentioned at the beginning of the season that I wanted to win state, many looked at me shocked. I felt that some didn’t believe that I could do it, but now I am the first female to ever win a golf state championship at Fort Dale Academy. I am so proud of my accomplishments over the past two years. Hard work truly does pay off.”
Golf coach Speed Sampley said of Campbell, “Marli has been wonderful to work with. Watching her progress through hard work and determination has been a great experience for the Fort Dale Golf Team. I hope her example will inspire the rest of our girls to work with the same effort.
I am very proud of her.”
Marli is the daughter of Jessica and Julian Campbell. She plans to attend Auburn University in the fall majoring in professional flight.
Fort Dale Academy golf coach Speed Sampley presents Marli Campbell with a certificate of recognition from the PGA National High School Golf Association in honor of her recent title as AISA 2024 Girls Golf State Champion.
