Butler County Football round up

The Greenville Standard

The 1A Georgiana Panthers traveled east to tangle with the 2A Purple Cats of Ariton this past Friday night.

This was the season opener for Ariton and Georgiana was carrying a shutout loss 35 -0 to the 5A Greenville Tigers.

Panther Head Coach Berry Bess said last week that the coaches and players had to watch film and iron out mistakes and get back to work.

Apparently, the Panthers followed Coach Bess’s plan to the letter bringing home their first victory 30-16 over the Purple Cats.

Now 1-1, the Panthers will again be on the road south to face the 2-0 Wildcats of Florala. This is a regional 1A matchup and Florala had their last victory 30-14 over the 4A Daleville Warhawks.

This should be a true 1A test for the Panthers of Georgiana.

The 1A McKenzie Tigers hosted the 3A Prattville Christian Academy Panthers.

McKenzie showed up to this scrap relishing a win over the 3A Wilcox Central Jaguars 47-12, while the Prattville Christian Panthers had defeated the Autaugaville Eagles 14-0.

The Tigers clawed their way to another victory over a larger school, defeating Prattville Christian Academy 36-14. McKenzie will get a real test this Friday as they face the 1A Elba Tigers.

Elba is 1-1 on the year and will bring their recent loss to Glenwood School 49-22.

The 5A Tigers of Greenville, in what could only be described as huge rout, defeated the3A Wilcox Central Jaguars 74-6.

The Jags were defeated by our McKenzie Tigers in the first game of the season 47-12.

Greenville has yet to be truly tested and will travel to the Charles Henderson Trojans in a 5A donnybrook.

The Trojans are 1-1 with their latest game, a shutout loss to the 2A Highland Home Flying Squadron 24-0.

The AISA 3A Eagles of Fort Dale Academy crashed Friday night under the lights at home to the 3A Chamber Academy Rebels 36-7.

The Eagles will be at home again this Friday night against a winless 1A Escambia Academy Cougars who suffered their season opener against Jackson Academy 27-20.

This week’s Golden Football award goes to the McKenzie Tigers, though Georgiana defeated 2A Ariton on the road and Greenville decimated Wilcox Central, McKenzie had already accomplished this feat as a 1A team.

Congratulations McKenzie Tigers on your second Golden Football Award.
