Butler County Football Round Up

BY RAY VAN COR

The Greenville Standard

County teams went 3-0 this week because the Tigers of Greenville had a bye.

The McKenzie Tigers were a 42-point favorite in their game against the Red Level Tigers and the numbers didn’t lie.

They closed out regular season play with a shutout victory 44-0 over the Red Level Tigers in Red Level.

McKenzie has risen to the top of the Region 2 heap and finished regular season play 9-1 overall and 6-1 in the region and first in 1A Region 2.

The Greenville Tigers were off this week but will face a 0-8 Thunderbirds of Park Crossing in Montgomery Nov. 1. Greenville should bring home a victory with this one.

The Fort Dale Eagles were at home in the nest for Friday’s game and squared off with the 5-2 Wildcats of Wilcox Academy.

The Wildcats were a five point favorite, but I had the Eagles winning by two points and the Eagles chalked up another victory 28-10 making them 7-2 overall.

They next travel north to scrap with another set of Wildcats, Edgewood Academy. Edgewood is 4-5 on the year and recently downed Abbeville Christian 33-14 Friday night.

Even though the Eagles are on the road, the numbers say Fort Dale is a 21-point victor in this game. Just to be on the safe side, I say Eagles by 14.

Georgiana Panthers hosted a 1-7 Pleasant Home Eagles team at Harmon Field this Friday night for their final game of the regular season.

The Panthers were a six touchdown favorite with a potential shutout at home and made me yet again a prophet with a 59-0 shutout over the Eagles.

It’s not sure yet, but the Panthers may face the Autauga Academy Generals as a three seed in the first round of the playoffs.

In surrounding area football, the Highland Home Flying Squadron is most notable at 10-0 for the season in AHSAA 2A play and first in their region.

They have average 48 points on offense per game and holding their opponents to only five points a game with five shutouts.

They will face 4-4 St. Luke’s Episcopal Wildcat team at home Nov. 8. The Wildcats have three shutouts and have been shutout themselves. It is a definitely a game to check out.

This week’s Golden Football award is going to the Fort Dale Eagles.

I know both McKenzie and Georgiana shutout their opponents; however, the Eagles were a five point underdog and managed a 28-10 victory. I will say congratulations to all our teams this week!
