The Edge movie theater in Greenville officially re-opened on Friday, Nov. 29, 2024, to a welcoming crowd.
The process to re-open began on Monday, Jan. 22, 2024 at the Greenville City Council Meeting, where the five councilmen and mayor voted to lease/purchase the theater from SBS Investments, LLC.
Jerome Harris, who manages the Greenville Parks and Recreation Department, had oversight of the project and now the theater.
He recently stated, “We had to do some renovations and fix a few things before we could open but we accomplished that.”
He added, “It is a first run movie theater, which shows the newest movies on the market, but we hope to start showing older movies as well. Crystal Philpot is the movie theater manager and she is doing great job for us.”
Philpot, who was the manager under the previous management company, said “We are glad to be back open and have four movie screens in operation.”
She added, “I think it’s important for the community and there’s nothing quite like the big screen atmosphere to enjoy a movie. You have the smell of popcorn, the surround sound, and comfortable seating to make memorable experience.”
She noted that parties are welcome which include families, churches, schools, organizations, and civic groups. “For parties over 25, we will open the theater on the days or times we are closed to accommodate their needs,” said Philpot.
As for pricing on movies and refreshment, Philpot said their prices are comparable or lower than movie theaters in the Montgomery area.
Eventually, they plan to have food trucks set up outside where the food purchased can be eaten inside or taken into the theater.
Philpot said, “Of course, we don’t allow outside food that’s not purchased on location to be brought in. Food items such as sunflower seeds and pistachios are hard to clean up and any alcohol is not allowed.”
“We want this theater to be family friendly and to succeed. To do that we need the community to be respectful of the premises, under the previous management we had to start requiring anyone under 16 to be accompanied by a parent or guardian. As of now, a parent or guardian over the age of age of 18 is only required for R-rated movies.
The Edge is closed on Monday and Wednesday but open all other days. On Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, the theater doors open at 2:30 p.m. On Saturday and Sunday the doors open at 11:30 a.m. with the first movie starting at 12 p.m.
The theater, for the time being, has a Facebook page, which can found by searching The Edge Movie Theater – Greenville, Al.
