On May 19 at the Ritz Theatre in historic downtown Greenville, Miss Susan’s School of Dance held its annual spring recital. The tap and jazz portion was titled “Salute to Cole Porter” and featured well-loved melodies like “Anything Goes “ and “I Get a Kick Out of You.” The combination of white and silver shimmering costumes and the beautiful Ritz stage lighting made for a gem of a performance that dazzled and sparkled. The ballet segment of the event was Act II of Tchaikovsky‘s Swan Lake. Cursed by the evil Rothbart (Tyson Scott) and later rescued by a heroic Prince Siegfried (Clay Powell), senior Madison Whetstone danced the lead en pointe as Odette. She was accompanied by a bevy of lovely and graceful cygnets much to the delight of the packed house. The cast of Swan Lake performed by Miss Susan’s School of Dance paused in this lovely tableau at the end of Act II. Right: The graceful and ethereal Carly Wilson concludes her en pointe solo “Danse de Cygnes.” Below: True love conquers all as Prince Siegfried (Clay Powell) dips Odette (Madison Whetstone) in the “Pas de Deux.”
