CCSO takes lead on Stinson’s death

NICOLE NORRIS | The Greenville Standard

On May 25, 32-year-old Selton Byron Stinson was found dead inside the Butler County Jail.

Days earlier on May 19, Stinson was arrested for unlawful distribution of a controlled substance and booked into the Butler County Jail.

As is normal protocol a third-party agency was contacted to lead the investigation.

According to Covington County Chief Lieutenant Investigator Wesley Snodgrass, CCSO received a call from BCSO in regards to the death.

Snodgrass stated, once he and another CCSO representative were at the county jail they processed the scene, interviewed all potential witnesses and completed the initial investigation that day.

While Snodgrass can’t give the cause of death, he did state that foul play was not involved.

CCSO is currently completing packets for the district attorney’s office.

The findings of the case will be presented to a grand jury in September to see if further investigation is needed.
