Big week for Georgiana basketball

This past week held a continued winning streak for the Georgiana Panthers.

On Monday, Jan. 22 the Panthers hit the courts against W.S. Neal at home. The varsity Panther boys won 62-52 and the varsity girls won 52-11. Leading players for the boys’ team were Martavious Payton with 17 points and 11 rebounds, Ja’Michael Stallworth had 13 points and Keinderius Mobley scored 11 points. For the girl’s team, Tenasia Gordon scored 13 points.

Tuesday pitted the Panthers against the Red Level Bulldogs with Georgiana adding two more wins. The boys won by a score of 66-32 while the girls won convincingly 45-8. Standing out for the boys were Martavious Payton with 22 points, 12 rebounds, and 6 blocked shots and Christopher Mixon had 10 points. For the ladies, Courtney Powell made 13 points and had 13 rebounds with Tah-Ja Herbert scoring 10 points.

After a break from play on Wednesday the Panthers varsity boys winning streak resumed on Thursday when they hosted Straughn High School and won 64-48 The Panther girls lost 46-58. Stallworth made 19 points and Payton scored 10 points for the boys. Gordon stood out for the girls with 22 points.

Friday’s game against J.F. Shields in Georgiana proved to be a tough match for both Panther varsity teams. The boys won in overtime 88-81 while the girls won 48-44.

Senior Ja’Michael Stallworth set a school record with an astounding 55 points and was followed by Payton with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Starring for the Lady Panthers were Michariah Austin who had 12 points and Gordon with 11 points.
