MARY ANN SMITH GARCIA

Mary Ann Smith Garcia passed away on Oct. 13, 2021, she was 85 years old.

Born and raised in Greenville, as a teenager, Mary Ann was part of a singing trio that traveled her home state of Alabama, inspiring countless people with song. Upon her High School graduation, she received a music Scholarship to Troy State University, where she performed with “The Madrigals”. She earned a bachelor’s degree in Education and after moving to Pensacola in 1965, she taught English at Brownsville and Bellview Junior High Schools for 25 years. Upon her retirement from teaching, she became active in her church, and its choir, and was a volunteer at Baptist Hospital for 20 years.

She is survived by her daughter Susan Smith Greenwell, her son, Michael Murphy Smith, and son, James Ellis Smith: her seven grandchildren: Tyler, Kerri, Bradley, Michael, Catherine, Livia, and James, as well as her five great-grandchildren: Parker, Liam, Ava, Todd, and Lucy, and her sister Mrs. Ada Claire Solomon of Greenville.

Service was held at Pensacola Memorial Gardens in Pensacola, Wednesday, Oct. 20, at 10 am. Visitation was held at 9:30 am.
