FDA soccer season ends
Top: The Fort Dale boys’ soccer team ended their season on Thursday, April 17, with a 5-0 loss to Springwood School in the AISA state semifinal match at the Emory Folmar YMCA Soccer Complex in Montgomery. Earlier in the week they handily defeated their round one opponent Southern Preparatory Academy 7-0 at home on Saturday, April 5. Coach Patrick Pendleton said of his team, “The boys had a great season and peaked at the end of the season. Unfortunately, we had our worst game of the year in the semifinals against a team loaded with extremely savvy and technical international players. The boys graduate two seniors (Clay Gardner and Cade Raulerson) and look forward to another strong season next year. Upwards and onwards.” Pictured is senior Cade Raulerson in the AISA State Soccer Tournament Semifinal loss with Springwood School. Coach Rob Fossett remarked on the match saying, “The first 25 minutes of the game was probably the best soccer I’ve seen the Fort Dale varsity girls play over the last seven years. Even though we out possessed Springwood and out shot them 30-12, the ball would just not find the back of the net. Eventually frustration set in, we lost the momentum, and the game got away from us. Even so, I could not be prouder of these young women who fought to the very end. We graduate eight seniors (Annabelle Anderson, Sydney Blackmon, Addison Huggins, Alyssa Johnson, Caden McNaughton,Kate Slagley, Mary Cumbie Taylor, and Marley Thomas) who have been foundational to this program and will be deeply missed.” (Kathy Pickens | The Standard)
