MELVIN AUSTIN JOHNSON

April 25, 1953 – April 14, 2025

Melvin Austin Johnson (Ricky), age 71, of Greenville, passed away peacefully on April 14, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

Ricky is survived and missed by his devoted wife, Helen, of over 50 years; his sons, Russell (wife Amanda) and Jeremy (wife Tracy); his grandchildren, Alexander, Ally, Alyssa, Austin, Brianna, Gavin, and Hayden; his great-granddaughter, Nevaeh; his brothers Claude, David, Robert (Peggy), Walter (Debbie); his sister, Lynell (Robert); and his sons of the heart, Al (Kalyn) and Jarrod (Stephanie).

Ricky was preceded in death by his parents, Claude and Mildred Johnson.

A memorial service was held at Southside Baptist Church of Greenville on April 21, at 6 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family has asked instead that donations be made to the Shepherd’s Table (Southside Baptist Church) in Ricky’s memory.

Ricky will be remembered as a son of God and a child of the King; he lived as a lion.
