The McKenzie Tigers hosted the green and white Millry Wildcats for the first round of the AAHSA 1A playoffs under the Friday night lights of Williams-Vickery Stadium.

The Wildcats won the toss and deferred.

Millry made a hard push on their first drive but McKenzie held and then marched down the field, running the ball, to take it in for the touchdown with 10:34 left in the first quarter. McKenzie led 6-0.

The Wildcats made good yardage down the field running and passing the ball, but Tiger Quay Jackson intercepted the ball and brought it back up almost to midfield.

Tiger Ayden Willsey dominated the offensive field and made it to the end zone for a Tiger touchdown giving McKenzie a 14-0 lead early in the first quarter.

McKenzie did not let up in the second quarter and continued to control the field and score board.

The first half closed with the Tigers leading the Wildcats30-6.

Despite an attempt at redemption by Millry, McKenzie continued to dominate the game for a 46-6 victory.

The win advances McKenzie to the second round of Alabama High School Athletic Association playoffs.

Head coach Brian Bradford said, “It was a great win last night in a great atmosphere. I am really excited for this team and community. We have another big home game next week versus Autauga Academy.”
