FDA announces coaching changes
Fort Dale Academy (FDA) recently announced changes for the head coaches of volleyball and middle school basketball.
Rachel Whiddon, a 2021 graduate of FDA, was recently announced as the next head coach of the Eagle volley ball program.
Excelling in both basketball and softball at FDA, Whiddon continued her softball career at Shelton State Community College before transferring to the University of Montevallo.
Throughout her collegiate career, she earned numerous accomplishments to include JUCO All-Tournament honors and NFCA All-American Scholar-Athlete in both 2024 and 2025.
She graduated from Montevallo in December 2025 with a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education.
FDA Athletic Director Marshall Watts said, “We are excited to welcome Rachel back to Fort Dale Academy. Her experience as a collegiate athlete, passion for Fort Dale, and commitment to developing young people make her a great fit to lead our volleyball program. Rachel understands the values and traditions of our school, and we believe she will have a positive impact on our student-athletes both on and off the court.”
Whiddon said she is grateful for the opportunity to return to her alma mater and begin this new chapter.
Luke Taylor, a 2018 graduate of FDA, was also recently announced as the new middle school basketball coach.
Taylor was a four-year letterman in football, basketball, and baseball. He continued his academic and athletic career at Huntingdon College graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration.
While at Huntingdon, Taylor was a member of the football program and contributed to three USA South Conference championship teams.
Taylor said, “I am excited to get to work with these student-athletes. I hope to continue the long tradition of Fort Dale athletics in a positive and competitive manner.”
Taylor will replace Coach Glenn Branum who has been acknowledged for his outstanding years of service and dedication to the junior high basketball programs at FDA.
