GCS dedicates historical markers
The Greenville Camellia Society (GCS) held a historical marker dedication on Friday afternoon, May 29, at Beeland Park. A sizeable crowd attended the event, which showcased four historical markers that were placed around the park. Special guests attending were Greenville Mayor Jae’Ques Brown, Butler County Commissioner Jesse McWilliams, Greenville City Councilman Joseph West, Butler County Sheriff David Scruggs, and Rev. John Girdley from First Baptist Church Greenville. GCS President Jan Autrey Newton said in her remarks at the event, “History lives through memory, through storytelling, and places such as this. By dedicating these historical markers, we ensure that future generations will know what happened here, why it mattered, and why it should never be forgotten. May the markers stand for generations as a source of remembrance, education, and inspiration.” (Bruce Branum | The Standard)
