The Butler Farmers Federation Women’s Leadership Committee hosted the 18th Annual Heritage Cook Off on Saturday, July 19, at the Walnut Street Church of Christ in Greenville.
This year’s category was iced sheet cake and six contestants had entries.
First Place winner was Ada Sue Thompson with Chocolate Sheet Cake. Second place winner was Bobbie Royster with Vanilla Cake with white icing and sprinkles. Debbie Jean Owens placed third with Margaret’s Cola Cake.
The entries were judged on appearance, interesting recipe, and of course taste. Judges for this year’s contest were Butler County Sheriff David Scruggs, Bec Duncan, and Butler County Revenue Commissioner Annie Glenn Braden.
The cook off is just one way the Women’s Leadership Committee promotes agriculture in our community. The committee is involved in various community service events. Most recently the committee enjoyed visiting with Hope Afield and feeding the vendors at the local farmers’ market.
