HARDIE MCGEHEE OWEN, JR.
March 15, 1939 – April 17, 2022
Hardie “Buddy” McGehee Owen, Jr., age 82 of Hope Hull, Alabama went home to be with The Lord on Sunday, April 17, 2022 at Baptist Medical System in Montgomery.
Funeral services were held on Friday, April 22, beginning at 1 p.m. at Tabernacle Church with Pastor Gayle Woodard and Sister Ruby Beck officiating. Visitation was held one hour prior to service time at the church. Burial followed at Letohatchee Cemetery with Dunklin Funeral Home Directing. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Hardie’s memory to The Tabernacle Historical Association. Buddy was a life-long resident of Hope Hull, Alabama. He was the 3rd generation to the Owen Farm in Lowndes County where he worked and raised cattle, raised quarter horses and trained dogs. One of his prized paint quarter horses, Joker, lived to be 38 years old. Buddy got Joker his junior year of high school, he and his children competed with him, and his grandchildren learned to ride on him. Buddy was loved by his family and friends, and he will be deeply missed until we see him again in Heaven.
Buddy was preceded in death by his parents, Hardie McGehee Owen Sr. and Mary Alice Mims Owen.
Buddy is survived by his son, Bud (Melba) Owen of Letohatchee; daughters, Lisa (Bill) Bryant of Hope Hull and Missy (Bryan) Phelps of Bryan, Texas; his beloved dog, C.J.; grandchildren, Bubba (Melissa) Owen, Michael (Sharon) Owen, Dusty (Brenna) Owen, Lisa Marie (Christian) DeAlba, Brady (Chloe) Phelps, and Bailey Phelps; great grandchildren, Khloe Whiteside, Reid Owen, C.J. DeAlba, Caden DeAlba, and Rilen Owen; and a very special friend, Sharon Helms.
Pallbearers were, Bubba Owen, Michael Owen, Dusty Owen, Brady Phelps, Bryan Phelps, Bill Bryant, Mark Eagerton and Little Steve McCain. Honorary pallbearers were Jimmy Knowles, Cecil Williamson, Steve McCain, Jim Cunningham, David Kendrick, Tommy Coleman, Gene Beck, Steve Lawson, Christian DeAlba, Charles Johnson and classmates.
