JOHN GOLSOM COOPER

March 5, 1933 – July 30, 2022

Mr. John Golson Cooper, age 89, passed away on Saturday, July 30, 2022 at his home in Greenville.

Funeral Services were held on Thursday, Aug. 4, beginning at 2 p.m. from the chapel of Dunklin Funeral Home with Reverend Tim Skipper officiating. The family received friends from 1-2 p.m.  Burial followed at the Antioch East Baptist Church Cemetery with Dunklin Funeral Home directing.

Mr. Cooper was born on March 5, 1933 and was preceded in death by his parents, John William and Fannie Newton Cooper; he was also preceded in death by his brother, Cecil Cooper and his sister, Edna Sue Sims.

Mr. Cooper is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Mary Emma (Harrison) Cooper; daughters, Sandra Rice (Sean), and Sharon Donde (Raymond); son, Bruce William Cooper (Amy); and sister, Joann Johnson (Joe).

He is also survived by seven grandchildren: Heather Tindal, Jennifer Tindal Jones (Mason), Rachael Donde, Holly Donde Williams (Ryan), Dalton Cooper Donde, Emma Ruth Cooper and Olivia Rose Cooper along with five great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Mr. Cooper was born and raised in Greenville and upon graduating Greenville High School entered the U.S. Navy where he served during the Korean Conflict.

Upon honorable discharge from the navy, Mr. Cooper returned to Greenville where he worked for Colonial Bread for over 30 years.  Upon retirement from Colonial, Mr. Cooper worked over 20 years in his own lawn maintenance business.

He was a long and active member of First Baptist Church in Greenville and of his Sunday School Class. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his honor to First Baptist Church or to the Alabama Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association.
