Mr. Moody, also known as Jim, Durwood, Dad, Papa, or Grandpa, was born in the Centenary Community in Crenshaw County on May 30, 1929. He attended Greenville High School. He dropped out to join the Army Air Corps and later obtained his G.E.D.

For many years he studied in night classes at Brookes Bible Institute, St. Louis, Mo. In the 1970’s, James was a full-time student and graduated from Southeastern Bible College, Birmingham. Concurrently, he was preaching at First Christian Church, Greenville, and was an Ordained Minister.

His life work was tile contractor, and he taught his sons this skilled trade. In addition to being an avid reader, he had a special interest and talent for painting. Primarily, his artwork was commissioned by or gifted to family.

A humorous and little known fact about Papa: Valerie, his first granddaughter led him out to the pasture and had him kiss the mule on the face!

While serving in the Army Air Corps, Jim met Rosalie E. Meilert, in St. Louis, Mo. They were married in 1952 and raised their two sons in the St. Louis area. The family moved to Greenville in 1968. In the late 1970’s, Jim relocated to Sarasota, Fla., and resided there for more than 30 years. After being widowed, he moved to Montevallo, then Clanton, living with son and daughter-in-law Carl and Diane. Due to advanced Dementia, he had been a resident at North Hill Nursing and Rehab, Birmingham, since May 2022.

James, Sr. was preceded in death by his first wife of 26 years, Rosalie E. Meilert Moody (divorced); mother, Mildred Lee Daniel Moody; father, Calvin Bruce Moody; brothers; Claude (Sara Thagard) Moody and Dover (Barbara Ernest) Moody; his second wife of 28 years, Mary Vee (Ramon) Moody; and grandson, James Hollis Moody.

Mr. Moody is survived by brothers, Cecil and Lonny (Mae Hartley) Moody, children, James Durwood (Brenda Morgan) Moody, Jr., Carl Russell (Diane Callins) Moody, Steve (Joanne) Ramon, Elaine Ramon (William) Miller, Rick (Starr) Ramon, Joe (Beth) Ramon, Donald (Karen) Ramon, and Michelle Ramon Walters; 21 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; and nieces, nephews and friends.
