Harold Frank Benson, known to many as Hal, passed away on Aug. 7, 2025, at the age of 60. A resident of Greenville, Hal was born on Nov. 23, 1964.

He is survived by his loving wife, Deedra McNaughton Benson, and his mother, Frances Benson. Hal was a devoted family man, leaving behind his sister, Leah (Tony) Stonicher, and his children, Frances “Grace” (Jessie) Benson Kelly, Elizabeth “Colby” (Jody) Benson Halford, Clay Braxton Benson, and Ava Casey Benson. He was also a proud grandfather to Thomas Wayne Halford, Hallie Grace Halford, and Annie Joe Kelly.

Hal was preceded in death by his father, Gerald Wayne Benson Sr., and his brother, Gerald Wayne Benson, Jr. A 1983 graduate of Greenville High School, Hal dedicated 32 years of his career to Alabama Power. He was a cherished member of the First Baptist Church in Greenville and was known for his passion for hunting and fishing.

A memorial service to honor Hal’s life was held Aug. 10, beginning at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church, with Brother Patrick Skipper officiating. Visitation took place from 2-3:30 p.m., followed by a eulogy at 3:30 p.m. Hal will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
