FRANCES THIGPEN BENSON

Nov. 5, 1934 – Sept. 1, 2025

Frances Thigpen Benson passed away peacefully at her home on Monday, Sept. 1, 2025, at the age of 90.

Frances was born on Nov. 5, 1934. She was preceded in death by her parents, Mildred Thigpen Moorer and Frank Thigpen; her husband of 65 years, Gerald Wayne Benson, Sr.; her son, Gerald Wayne Benson, Jr.; her son, Harold Frank Benson; and her brother, William Edge Thigpen.

She is survived by her daughter, Leah (Tony) Stonicher; grandsons, Cory (Lauren) Latham, Benson (Anna) Stonicher, Max Stonicher, and Clay Benson; granddaughters, Savannah Stonicher, Grace (Jessie) Kelly, Colby (Jody) Halford and Ava Casey Benson; great grandsons, Watts Stonicher, Thomas Halford, and Charles Latham; great granddaughters, Isabella Latham, Hallie Halford, Blakleigh Kelly and Annie Joe Kelly; her brother, Frank Thigpen, along with many nieces,  nephews, and other extended family members.

Frances was a lifelong educator with the majority of her years spent at Greenville High School.  She was a devoted and cherished member of First Baptist Church.

A Memorial Service was held at First Baptist Church, Greenville on Saturday, Sept. 6, with the Reverend John Girdley and Reverend Tim Patton officiating. The family received visitors from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. with a service immediately following at 1 p.m.
