According to a press release by the Butler County Sheriff David Scruggs, Brittany Cook and Meagan Cook have been charged with theft involving the unauthorized use of organizational funds from the McKenzie PTA.
Scruggs noted the investigation was complete with warrants signed and the case had been referred to the District Attorney’s Office.
He added in the press release, “The investigation began after school officials were notified of irregularities involving the PTA bank account. Investigators with the Criminal Investigations Division reviewed financial records, transactions, and supporting documentation.
“During the investigation, it was determined that funds from the account had been used for unauthorized personal expenses. As a result, Brittany Cook and Meagan Cook were charged in connection with the case.
“Following the start of the investigation, funds were repaid to the account prior to its closure. The recovered funds were then donated to McKenzie High School with approval from the remaining officers and members of the McKenzie PTA.
“Based on the evidence collected and the charges filed, the Butler County Sheriff’s Office has completed its role in the investigation and referred the case to the District Attorney’s Office.
“The Butler County Sheriff’s Office appreciates the cooperation of all parties who assisted during the investigation.”
The case is pending before the Butler County court system.
