Master gardeners share knowledge

SPECIAL TO THE STANDARD

The Butler County Extension Master Gardeners welcomed a large and enthusiastic crowd to last week’s Lunch & Learn program focused on the topic of medicinal herbs.

Held during the noon hour at the Greenville Area Chamber of Commerce, the gathering brought together gardeners, community members, and guests interested in learning more about the practical and historical uses of herbs for health and wellness.

The program featured guest speaker Dawn Jarzynieckie-Rucker, who shared her knowledge of common medicinal herbs, their traditional uses, and how they can be grown successfully in home gardens.

Her presentation offered both educational insight and practical tips, encouraging attendees to consider incorporating herbs into their everyday lives.

Members of the Greenville Kiwanis Club were also in attendance, joining the group during their lunch hour.

Their participation added to the strong sense of community support and collaboration that continues to make the Lunch & Learn series a success.

“We were thrilled with the turnout and the level of interest,” said a master gardener representative. “It’s always rewarding to see so many people eager to learn and share ideas about gardening and healthy living.”

The Lunch & Learn series is part of the Alabama Cooperative Extension System’s ongoing efforts to provide accessible, research-based horticultural education to the community.

Topics throughout the year are designed to appeal to both experienced gardeners and those just getting started.

The next Lunch & Learn will be held on Tuesday, May 26, and will focus on “Bodacious Butterfly Gardens,” offering guidance on how to create vibrant outdoor spaces that attract and support butterflies and other pollinators.

The Butler County Extension Master Gardeners invite the public to attend and continue growing their knowledge alongside fellow gardening enthusiasts.
