Tigers overcome Blue Devils

The beleaguered Greenville High Tigers earned their second win on the season this past Friday evening with a 27-18 win over the Blue Devils of Escambia County.

The win gives the Tigers a 2-7 record on the season while the Blue Devils fell to 2-7.

First quarter action saw both teams at a stalemate and just trading field position.

In the second quarter, the Blue Devils would score the only points to make the game 6-0 at halftime.

The Tigers came out with inspiration in the third quarter and they scored 15 points while holding Escambia to naught.

The first score came from a 31-yard pass from Cedric Morris to Quamarion McKee. The second came from Morris calling his own number on an eight yard rush.

The Tigers increased their lead at the 11 minute mark in the fourth quarter to 21-6 on another Morris seven yard rush.

At the seven minute mark, Morris called his own number again and scored on a 24-yard rush to make the score 27-12.

Escambia would add two touchdowns but the Tigers held their ground to claim their second win on the season 27-18.

The 5A Tigers will next host the winless, 0-8, navy, scarlet, and white 6A Thunderbirds of Park Crossing this Friday.

Greenville will not make the playoffs this season, but a win over the Thunderbirds should give the Tigers hope for a better season next year.
