Mr. Charles “Chuck” Rufus Owens, Jr., affectionately known to his family as “Papa Chuck”, age 61, passed away on Monday, April 13, 2026.
The family received friends on Friday, April 17, from 5-7 p.m. at Dunklin Funeral Home in Greenville. Funeral Services were held Saturday, April 18 at 10 a.m. at Jenkins Chapel Methodist Church, 32880 Alabama Highway 47, Old Texas, AL, with Rev. Everett Miller officiating. Burial followed in Jenkins Chapel Cemetery with Dunklin Funeral Home directing.
Chuck was born Jan. 13, 1965, to Charles Rufus Owens, Sr. and Martha “Tutt” Fore Owens and was a lifelong resident of Old Texas, Alabama, a place he loved with immense pride. He was a proud member of the Monroe Academy Class of 1983 and graduated from Troy State University with a degree in Business Administration. He worked in the logging industry his entire adult life and was president of C.R. Owens Pulpwood Company. Chuck quietly and generously donated much of his time to his beloved Old Texas community and their church. Chuck was a loyal advocate of the lands and great outdoors God created, and nothing made him happier than working and spending time on his cattle farm. Chuck was a loving and dedicated husband, father, and grandfather who loved their family time together whether it was a weekend at Millers Ferry, a cookout at home, or a get-together at The Shed. Family was important to Chuck and his friends were equally important. Chuck was a loving person who was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. His kindness, compassion and respect for others were among his greatest attributes.
Chuck was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 34 years, Kimberly Farnsworth Owens; sons, Charles Miller Owens (Allison) of Old Texas, and Thomas Deaton Owens (Kate) of Birmingham; and his daughter, Sarah Elizabeth Owens of Pike Road. Chuck adored his grandchildren – Tillman, Collier, Ayers, and Crawford. He is also survived by his sisters, Fran Owens Cook (Jimmy) of Camden, and Susan Owens Curtis (Sam) of Helena; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews he was very close to.
Pallbearers were Mike Owens, Marc Owens, Trip Stallworth, JP Owens, Tom Gilpin, Kenny Byrd, Deaton Owens and Miller Owens. Honorary pallbearers were Ziba Anderson, Mitch Metcalf and Butch Metcalf.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributing to charities reflecting Chuck’s personal interests: Monroe County Farmer’s Federation Scholarship Fund, c/o Mrs. Bracie House, 737 Powell Road, Uriah, AL 36480; or Jenkins Chapel Methodist Church, 257 Owens Road, Pine Apple, AL 36768.
