“Two masked and hooded men attempted to rob the Dollar General store located on Alabama Highway 106 in Georgiana Thursday evening,” said Georgiana Police Chief Carlton Cook.

During the attempted robbery, a single patron tried to intervene and during the struggle was shot in the abdomen just before 9 p.m. “A white male customer was checking out during the robbery and tried to intervene,” Cook said.

The two offenders then fled the scene and the type of vehicle used is currently unknown.

The victim, unidentified for safety purposes, was transported to a Montgomery hospital where he underwent surgery for his wounds. He is in stable condition.

His condition is currently stable at this time. Chief Cook further stated, “We’re looking over surveillance video footage and comparing the robbery to other crimes in the area.”

The Butler County Sheriff’s Office is also involved in the investigation.
