BCSO deputy arrested for theft

Last Wednesday, May 27, Butler County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Weston Keeney, age 23, was arrested and charged with Theft of Property 2nd.

The Butler County Sheriff’s Office posted the following on its Facebook page.

“As of Wednesday, May 27, 2026, former Butler County Sheriff’s Office employee Weston Keeney has been charged by the Alabama State Bureau of Investigation with Theft of Property 2nd Degree.

This investigation did not involve the Butler County Sheriff’s Office and stems from an incident in Georgiana.

The Butler County Sheriff’s Office has fully cooperated with SBI throughout this investigation.

Sheriff David Scruggs was notified of the investigation on May 21, 2026, and Weston Keeney’s employment with the Butler County Sheriff’s Office was terminated that same day.

Weston Keeney was arrested today by the Alabama State Bureau of Investigation and booked into the Butler County Detention Center.

Because this is an active investigation being handled by the State Bureau of Investigation, no further comments will be made at this time
