CARL WATSON WASDEN
Brother Carl Watson Wasden, a lifelong resident of Greenville, passed peacefully into eternity surrounded by family in his home at age 94 on Saturday, Aug. 9.
A Heavenly Homecoming Celebration was held Wednesday, Aug.13, at 11 a.m., at Antioch West Baptist Church, Georgiana, with Brother Nathan Skipper officiating. The family will received friends beginning at 9:30 a.m. until time of the service. Burial followed at Antioch West Baptist Church Cemetery.
Brother Wasden was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Grace Till Wasden; his daughter, Debbie Wasden Atkins; and his parents, Henry Carl and Annie Lou Wasden.
He is survived by his sister, Hazel Wasden Seale; daughter, Sandy (Mark) Barrett; grandchildren, Whitney (Heath) Gentry; Wesley (Josh) Atkins-Sealey, and Wade (Taylor Elizabeth) Barrett; greatgrandchildren, Grace, Watson and Harrison Gentry; and many nieces, nephews, and other family members.
Brother Watson was brought into the world in Sand Cut where he lived for 94 years within 150 yards from the hilltop where he was born. After high school, he joined the army and served his country until 1953. Watson then worked at Riley Lumber Supply before receiving his calling at age 37 from The Lord to attend and graduate from Baptist Bible Institution. During his time at BBI, he began serving at Antioch West Baptist Church- the only church he ever attended. He served the church and the Sand Cut community faithfully for 54 years until he retired at age of 91.
Brother Watson enjoyed spending time with his beloved family and friends, hunting quail and pheasant, being in the woods, sharing The Gospel, as well as building and construction. He even built his family home that he finished in 1958. He loved his Lord, his church and his community deeply. He will be greatly missed.
The family would like to express sincere gratitude to, Ms. Glossie Patterson, Ms. Patricia Cook, Ms. Tammy Smith, Ms. Lashay Powell, Mrs. Ruby Bennett, Mrs. Minnie Lewis, the nurses and staff of Southern Care Hospice for the excellent care they provided during his extended illness.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Brother Watson Wasden’s name to Antioch West Baptist Church (C/O Cindy McCullough, 274 W Pettibone Road, Georgiana, AL 36033).
