McKenzie trounces Red Level

The AHSAA 1A McKenzie Tigers hosted the 1A Red Level Tigers for a Region 2 game Friday night.

Red Level was unable to match McKenzie, ultimately falling to the Tigers 62-0.

Tiger freshman Carter Gomillion started as quarterback for McKenzie with an impressive performance.

Gomillion sent a pass to Tiger Quay Jackson for the opening touchdown of the game early in the first half.

Gomillion went 5-5 passing with 122 yards, two touchdowns, and one two point conversion.

Freshman Cameron Merritt also completed a solid performance, opening the first drive with a fumbled onside kick by Red Level.

This recovery set up McKenzie for a touchdown by Jackson with 7:57 on the clock in the first quarter.

Merritt also zipped down field for a touchdown for the opening play of the second half.

The Tigers wrapped up the fast game with 171 total rushing yards, 139 passing yards, and 310 total offense.

McKenzie (9-0) will next host the black and gold Billingsley Bears (5-4) for their last regular game of the year this Thursday night with a 7 p.m. kick-off. It will be a non-region game.

On Friday, Nov. 7, McKenzie begins state playoffs when the Tigers will host the green and white Wildcats of Millry High School.
