November is National Prematurity Awareness Month

November is National Prematurity Awareness Month and World Prematurity Day is honored each year on Nov. 17 to increase awareness about preterm birth.

Each year in the U.S., 1 in 10 babies are born preterm. Preterm birth is birth that happens too soon, before 37 weeks of pregnancy.

Babies born too early may face life-threatening complications and have lifelong health problems.

In honor of World Prematurity Day, Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated Lambda Delta Zeta Chapter is raising awareness of this serious health crisis.

Zeta chapters and Auxiliaries will come together for action and advocacy during the month of November.

Join them in conducting prematurity awareness activities in our community during November 2024.

Our community will learn more about the infant health crisis that nearly half a million families cope with each year.

They invite you to join in their National Prematurity Awareness Contest: Purple Reign. On World Prematurity Day, Nov. 17, they are asking city and county officials, local businesses, organizations, schools, churches, and individuals to help decorate our towns purple by wearing purple, using purple lights and decorations to bring about awareness.

In partnership with WAKA News 8, they would like to cover our local efforts. The best and most creative will be featured nationally through the March of Dimes and Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated publications.

Please contact Zeta Prematurity Awareness Program Co-chair Sonya Yeldell (334) 437-1272 to confirm your participation in the Purple Reign Campaign by Saturday, Nov. 16.

It’s not just a month. It’s a movement!
