McLendon takes soaking for mental health

Greenville Mayor Dexter McLendon recently took the ice bucket challenge at Greenville Fire Station 1 Wednesday, May 28, to raise awareness for mental health in Alabama. Mental Health Month is observed throughout the month of May. Before getting soaked, he shared that his inspiration came from Longleaf Recovery & Wellness (LRW) and spoke about the critical need for more accessible mental health support across Alabama. McLendon said, “We want everyone to understand how important mental health is the State of Alabama.” LRW’s website states they provide compassionate, evidence-based treatment for substance use and mental health disorders. Their personalized approach empowers clients to heal, grow, and achieve lasting recovery in a supportive environment. After being soaked, McLendon challenged television meteorologist and podcast host James Span to participate. Witnesses on hand included family, friends, and city personnel.
